그림책으로 공부하고 챕터북으로 넘어가는 과정에서 딸아이가 재미있게 보고 있는 Junie B. Jones 시리즈입니다. 큼직한 삽화와 글자, 한문장이 5~6개의 단어로 이루어져 있어 그림책을 마치고 챕터북으로 올라가는 아이들에게 쉽게 볼 수 있는 책입니다.

Has a Peep in her Pocket 의 내용은 한 학기가 거의 다 마쳐갈 때, Junie B.은 시골 농장으로 견학을 갔으며, 동물을 보게 되서 신이 난 다른 아이들과는 달리 Junie B.는 당나귀나 수탉과 같은 농장의 동물들을 무서워 합니다. 농장에서 Junie B.의 흥미를 끌 만한 일은 어떤 것일까요?

바바라 파크 (Barbara Park) - 1947년 미국 뉴저지 주의 마운트 홀리에서 태어나 자랐다. 앨러 배머 주립대를 졸업한 뒤, 어린이들을 위한 책을 썼다. 어린 소녀의 생활을 에피소드 형식으로 재미있게 풀어간 < Junie B. Jones >시리즈로 우리나라에서도 유명하며 <미크 하트는 여기 있 지요>로 15개 주 어린이들이 선정한 상(15 state kid-selected awards)을 수상하였고, <빨간 자켓을 입은 꼬마>, <말라깽이들>, <로지 스완슨> 등의 여러 작품과 그림책들을 썼다. 그리고 Young Hooser Award, Milner Award , Tennessee Children's Choice Book Award 등 여러 상을 수상했다.

Andrew lost in the jungle 독후감

초등 3학년 아들이 쓴 독후감입니다. 에듀카 영어 글쓰기 대회에서요.^^
영어공부는 학원 및 학습지는 하지 않았지만 책과 오디오테잎(CD) 그리고 비디오(DVD)를 통해서 하고 있습니다.

I like to read a book about science. ‘Andrew lost’ series is science fiction. This series is made up of 15 books. I have read all 15 books. Judith C. Greenburg is the author of ‘Andrew lost’ series. In the ‘Andrew Lost’ series, I like the 15th book ‘Andrew Lost in the Jungle’ most, because there are more adventures in this book. Andrew, Judy and Thudd the robot have exciting adventure in the Rain Forest in Australia. ‘Andrew Lost in the Jungle’ is published in 2007.

Andrew is curious, Judy is stern. But when they are in big trouble they help each other. Thudd is Andrew’s mini- robot. Uncle Al is scientist. With an accident Andrew, Judy and Thudd was shrunk because of the Goa Constrictor which is one of the Andrew’s inventions. After a long journey, they have landed in the Australian rain forest. They have to get to uncle Al, escaping from rhinoceros beetles, tarantulas, bug-eating plants and carpet python. Finally they flowed down the river and met uncle Al.

The part that I like most is when they escape the snake with the sugar glider. One second late, they are dead. If it was me, when the snake came closer, I will ride on the tail of the snake. Then it would swing the tail to drop me. When it is tired out, I will get off the tail and hike to the river. And I learned three new facts from their adventure. First when Andrew and Judy ride on a stick insect, on the way Andrew burps. It smells like peppermint. Then the stick insect starts to go faster. I learned the smell of peppermint keeps some animals away. Second when they are caught in a spider’s web, Andrew’s mini-robot Thudd tells them to eat the web. I learned that saliva in mouth break web. Third in my favorite part, I learned a sugar glider’s baby is called Joey. It is the same name as a kangaroo’s baby. I think the baby of mammals who nurse their baby in their pouch is called Joey.

Next time Andrew and Judy adventure in Uncle Al’s bloodstream. I am looking forward to seeing their next adventure as soon as possible. I would like to recommend ‘Andrew Lost’ to kids who don’t like science. They would find interest in science.
