 Longman에서 발행한 InfoActive (논픽션 과학 동화) 라는 유아영어교재에 대해서 소개합니다.

 유아영어를 위하여 엄마와 함게 학습하는 영어공부법을 가이드하는 InfoActive 영어교재는 3가지를 위해서 만들어진 것이라고 합니다.

1. 능동적인 사고
2. 과정 중심적 교재
3. 배경지식 + 언어능력 키우는 리터러시

 영어라는 표현수단을 통해서 지식의 전달과 이해, 그리고 사고의 계발. 즉, '수학적 영역'이라든지 '과학적 영역' '사회적 영역' 등 해당분야에 대한 배경지식 습득은 물론 그것을 토대로 창의적인 문제 제기와 토론의 기초를 마련할 수 있다고 하는데....

첫번째 2개의 사진은 Stage 1A의 책으로 " Do you ever Feel Like This ? " 가 제목이고 책을 반으로 나누어서 남자와 여자아이의 여러 감정의 표현이 있는 내용이며,

 두번째 2개의 사진은 Stage 1A의 책으로 " All Sorts of things " 가 제목이며 동물과 식물에 대한 개념을 이해하고, 자료를 Tree Diagram에 정리하는 내용이고,

 세번째 사진은 Stage 1A의 책으로 " What IF ? " 가 제목이고 동물의 특징을 보고 , 새로운 특징이 생긴다면 어떤 생각을 가질 수 있는지 ? 에 대한 내용이며,

 네번째 사진은 Stage 1A의 책으로 " When I was One ? " 의 제목으로 태어나서 나이별로 발달하는 과정을 시간을 통해서 보여주는 내용으로 사진은 2살과 3살의 4컷 그림입니다.

 이 영어 교재는 Mathematics , Science & Technology , Health & Personal  Development , Studies of Society & Environment 등 다양한 분야를 다루면서 '스스로 사고하는 능력'을 키우는 것이 목표라는 책을 간단히 소개하였습니다.

 책을 소개하면서 조언을 한다면 이 영어교재는 엄마가 아이와 함께 공부하는 영어교재입니다.

 비싸게 구매했는데 지금은 17만원이네요. CD도 2개에서 4개로 늘어났고...메일로 연락주시면 중고로 저렴하게 양도하겠습니다.

Strange Animas of the SEA - 입체북

 National Geographic Action Book에서 만든 Strange Animas of the SEA 입체북으로 즐기는 영어공부입니다.

 입체북으로 아이들이 손으로 책을 여는 순간 화려하고 신기한 바다속의 동물이 짠~하고 사실감있게 나타나서 감탄사가 쏟아지는 그림책입니다.

 첫 페이지에 있는 hermit crab 에 대한 설명과 입체그림입니다.

 A hermit crab waves its claws,busily looking for small worms or shrimps. It lives in a shell that was left by another animal, for it does not grow its own.

 소라 껍질을 등에지고 있는 게를 표현한 것인데 소라껍질에는 말미잘도 붙어 있는 그림입니다.

 그리고 Giant kelp plant, Goosefish, coral reef, hammerhead shark octopus 로 구성되어 있습니다. 그 중 coral reef의 그림은 화려하고 예쁘게 표현되어 있습니다. In the underwater world of a coral reef, many creatures seek safety and food. The reef itself was built by millions of tiny animals. Long and slinky, moray eels rest in holes by day and hunt at night.

 책 속에서 펼쳐지는 바다속의 아름다움을 입체 그림으로 표현하고 그림의 곳곳에서 조그만 생물들의 모습을 찾아보는 재미와 간단히 움직여 볼 수 있게 구성되어 있습니다.  

 추가적으로 책의 주요내용을 표현한 영어 글로 마무리합니다.

 From sunny shallow water to the dark deep sea, the ocean is full of amazing creatures. many plants grow in shallow water where the light is bright. Strange-looking fish and other animals live among the plants and find food there.

 Math for the REAL World 라는 시리즈 지식책으로 즐기는 영어공부입니다.

 When.There.Were Dinosaurs 는 공룡 주제를 가지고 구성된 책으로, 레벨 5단계인 Proficiency로 작가는 Oril Zuravicky이고, Using Expanded Notation to represent Numers in the Millions 가 주제입니다.

 처음페이지는 Working with Numbers 내용으로 시작합니다.

For thousands of years, people have used mumbers to help them understand their world. Even the earliest people had counting systems to help them figure out things like when to plant crops and when to harvest them. Numbers are still a huge part of everyday life. Numbers can tell us how long ago the first people lived and how far away Earth is from Mars. Numbers can tell us the time and the temperature. Numbers can tell us how much things cost in the store and the ages of our friends and family members.

 아이들이 공룡에 빠지면 그 어려운 공룡의 이름을 줄줄이 외우고 다니며, 그런 시기에 이 책을 보여 준다면 자연스럽게 큰 숫자에 대한 개념을 아는데 도움이 될 것 입니다.

 공룡의 시대이기에 위와 같은 큰 수의 개념을 알게되며, 책에선 숫자와 관련된 내용으로 덧셈까지 해보는 구성으로 되어있습니다.

 Disappearing Act

Let's pick a number between 150,000,000 and 165,000,000 and write it using the addition from of expanded notation. This time, let's choose a number that doesn't have so many zeros ! How about 154,362,793 ? That should be a challenge !
