이 책은 잠들기전에 아빠가 아이와 함께 잠자리에서 읽는 동화로 Sally Grindley and anthony Browne 의 그림책이며 아빠의 따뜻한 사랑을 느낄 수 있는 책입니다.
'똑똑, 누구세요?' 라는 미국에서 자주 사용하는 말로 하는 재미있는 놀이형식으로 구성되어있어 아이가 상상력을 동원하여 문뒤에 누가 있을지 생각하고 유추해보는 내용으로 각 페이지의 문옆에 있는 벽지에 힌트 그림이 숨어있어서 누가 들어올지 상상할 수 있습니다. (실제로 이 놀이를 하는 아이들은 열쇠 구멍을 이용한다고 합니다.)

책의 내용은 예쁜 테디베어를 안고 잠자리에 들려는 아이에게 들려오는 소리 "Knock knock" 누구일까요? 문틈으로 고릴라의 손이 보이네요. 고릴라가 들어오게 해주다면 꼭 안아서 숨을 못쉬게 하겠다네요? "Knock knock" 이번엔 누구일까요? 문틈으로 요술 할머니의 뽀족한 모자가 보이네요. 들어오게 해준다면 개구리로 바꾸어 놓겠다는군요.

이런 방법으로 유령, 공룡, 거인들이 차례로 나타납니다. 그러나 마지막으로 나타난 사람은 아빠이며 아이는 "들어오세요"라며 아빠를 맞이합니다. 그리고 침대에서 아빠에게 누가 왔었는지 귀여운 수다를 펼칩니다. (어린딸의 이런 모습을 보면 너무 사랑스럽지 않나요. *^^*)

그리고 마지막 페이지의 신발 한컬레로 보여주면서 딸은 그들이 누구였는지 알고 있었다는 힌트를 주네요.^^
Synopsis Firstly at the door is a great big gorilla with fat furry arms and white teeth. Next time there's a wicked old witch at the door, then a creepy ghost, then a fierce dragon. Each time there's a knock at the door, there's a different monster, but each time they're wearing the same tartan slippers.
From the Author It's fifteen years old and still going strong! This was my second book, published in 1985. It's still amazingly popular and is a 'core' book for many schools. When I visit schools and libraries I perform it with masks, sheets and dragon smoke!

I really think this is a wonderful book about going to bed and playing games with your family. The little girl obviously likes playing the game and pretending that there is a gorilla, a witch, a ghost, a dragon and a giant who she does want to enter her room. The illustrations are wondeful and the expression of the girl's face and her teddy are delightful. I teach Nursery age children and they love the story and they enjoy telling it to each other. They know it is the girl's dad pretending to be these characters because of the slippers. I recommend it to parents and carers of young children at bed time.
